Yesterday was a day of pride, nostalgia, relief, and hope for me. Since Barack Obama first announced his presidency I, and many Americans, grew to like him over time. Sure, I was hesitant at first. Who was this guy? Who is he to think he can run this country? But I've always been a big fan of the underdog and the Cinderella story, and yesterday was both the election fairy tale's happy ending, and the beginning of a great challenge.

Lao-tzu, the founder of Taoism, said that "the longest journey begins with a single step." This morning, I woke up to read that President Obama ordered a halt to prosecution at Guantanamo Bay for the next 120 days. While mostly a symbolic gesture so far, it's an impressive first step for the new guy.
I celebrated the end of an error with an inaugural dinner with 13 friends. I decorated the house with pictures of the new president and red, white and blue candles and served some American specialties: Boston Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, and Apple Pie a la mode. Since the inauguration - and Obama's campaign - wasn't just about America, it was fitting that most of my guests weren't American. They came from Mexico, Sweden, Denmark, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Colombia. Sure everyone didn't have as much of an Obama infatuation as I did, but it was fun to celebrate the historic moment with people from many corners of the world.
So cheers to the underdog, to something different, to the guy who wasn't always served with a silver spoon - I'm read for a change. Are you?

Yes, I too, am ready for a change. And the fact that on DAY ONE, he already fulfilled one of his commitments...wow...cannot wait to see what the next 4 years hold!!

You mean 8 years, Kelli!
I have to agree! We watched the Innauguration with Cheeseburgers, French Fries and Apple Pie! Oh, and a really tasty Californian Red Wine! ;)
